Air Fryer Granola Clusters

Air fry granola clusters at 150°C (302°F) for 10 minutes.

Granola clusters are proof the air fryer can do more than fry things — the constant hot air toasts the oats and nuts evenly in a fraction of the time a low oven bake would take. The trick to actual clusters instead of loose granola is leaving the mixture mostly undisturbed while it cooks.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oats
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 tbsp desiccated coconut (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips, added after cooling (optional)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix the oats, honey, melted butter, chopped nuts, cinnamon and desiccated coconut until every oat flake looks glossy and coated, with no dry patches left.
  2. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper.
  3. Spread the mixture in an even layer on the parchment.
  4. Press down slightly with the back of a spoon — this compacting is what helps the mixture bind into clusters rather than separate crumbs.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 150°C.
  6. Air fry for 5 minutes.
  7. Stir the mixture once, turning the edges into the centre.
  8. Air fry for the remaining 5 minutes, until golden — it will still look a little soft coming out, but crisps up properly as it cools on the counter.
  9. Let it cool completely on the counter without disturbing it, since leaving it undisturbed is what forms clusters instead of loose crumbs.
  10. Once fully cool, break into clusters and stir through the chocolate chips — adding them while warm would just melt them into the granola instead of staying as chips.

Tip: Resist stirring too often — leaving it mostly undisturbed is what forms clusters instead of loose crumbs.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Serve over yogurt with fresh fruit, or eat by the handful with milk like cereal.

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks — no need to reheat, and freezing isn't necessary since it stays crisp on its own.
