Air Fryer Tandoori Prawns
Recipe by Sahil · Reviewed and updated September 2026
Air fry tandoori prawns at 200°C (392°F) for 8 minutes.
The moment prawns curl into a tight, small 'O' rather than a loose 'C', they've gone past done - pull them a touch earlier next time.

Ingredients
- 400 g large prawns, peeled and deveined, tails left on
- 3 tbsp thick yogurt
- 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder (for colour)
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste (optional)
- ½ tsp garam masala (optional)
- Juice of ½ lemon (optional)
- Salt, 1 tbsp oil
Steps
- Mix the yogurt, chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, lemon juice, salt and oil into a thick marinade.
- Coat the prawns and marinate for 15-20 minutes only - prawns are delicate and a long marinade starts to break down the texture rather than improve it.
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°C, then arrange the prawns in a single layer, not touching.
- Air fry for 4 minutes.
- Flip the prawns and air fry a further 3-4 minutes (about 8 minutes total) until opaque, curled into a loose C-shape and lightly charred at the edges.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges - prawns firm up and turn rubbery fast once they're out of the basket, so this isn't one to leave sitting.
Tip: The moment prawns curl into a tight, small 'O' rather than a loose 'C', they've gone past done - pull them a touch earlier next time.
