Air Fryer Chocolate Banana Puffs

Air fry chocolate banana puffs at 180°C (356°F) for 10 minutes.

This is the fastest route to a warm chocolate pastry when a proper bake feels like too much effort. Store-bought puff pastry puffs up beautifully in the air fryer's fast, dry heat, and four squares fit the basket without crowding, so the filling stays sealed in rather than leaking out.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, cut into 4 squares
  • 1 banana, sliced (or a thinly sliced apple)
  • 4 tbsp chocolate or chocolate spread
  • A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • Milk, for brushing (optional)
  • Sugar, to sprinkle (optional)

Steps

  1. Lay the puff pastry squares out on your work surface.
  2. Arrange a few banana slices and a spoonful of chocolate or chocolate spread on each square, staying just off-centre so you have clean edges left to seal.
  3. Sprinkle a small pinch of cinnamon over the filling.
  4. Fold each square into a triangle over the filling.
  5. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal them shut — a loose seal is how the chocolate leaks out and burns onto the basket.
  6. Brush the tops with milk, which is what gives them that shiny, slightly crackled finish.
  7. Sprinkle sugar evenly over the brushed tops.
  8. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C and arrange the puffs in a single layer, leaving space between them to puff freely.
  9. Air fry for 9 minutes, then check that the pastry layers look dry and flaky, not pale.
  10. Give them 1 more minute if needed, up to 10 minutes total, until puffed up and deep golden across the top, then let cool for 5 minutes before eating — the filling stays very hot.

Tip: Let them cool for 5 min. The filling is very hot.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Serve warm on their own, or with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream melting against the hot pastry.

Storage: Best eaten the day they're made since puff pastry turns soggy in the fridge, but if you do have leftovers, reheat in the air fryer at 160°C for 3–4 min to re-crisp rather than using the microwave.
