Air Fryer Garlic Butter Prawns

Air fry garlic butter prawns at 200°C (392°F) for 7 minutes.

Prawns cook in minutes no matter how you make them, but the air fryer gets a light char on the edges that a pan alone struggles to do without overcrowding. This is a good five-minute starter or a quick topping to fancy up a plain bowl of pasta.

Ingredients

  • 400 g prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 3 garlic cloves, grated
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted (optional)
  • ½ lemon (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Chopped parsley (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil, salt

Steps

  1. Pat the prawns dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, toss them with the oil or melted butter, grated garlic, paprika and salt until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat the air fryer and arrange the prawns in a single layer, without overlapping, so each one gets direct heat.
  4. Air fry at 200°C for 4 minutes.
  5. Shake the basket and air fry another 3 minutes (7 minutes total).
  6. Check the prawns have turned pink and curled into a tight C shape - that's your cue they're cooked through; pull them the moment you see it, since prawns overcook fast.
  7. Tip the prawns onto a serving plate.
  8. Squeeze over the lemon and scatter with chopped parsley right before serving so the citrus stays bright instead of cooking into the prawns.

Tip: Prawns overcook fast. Pull them as soon as they turn opaque.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Pile over cooked pasta with the pan juices, or serve with crusty bread to mop up the garlic butter.

Storage: Best eaten the same day; if reheating, use the air fryer at 160°C for about 2 min only, since prawns turn rubbery fast with any extra heat.
