Air Fryer Banana Oat Cookies

Air fry banana oat cookies at 160°C (320°F) for 9 minutes.

These cookies skip flour and refined sugar entirely — the ripe banana does all the binding and sweetening. The air fryer's small chamber suits them well, browning the bottoms nicely without drying out such a small batch the way an oven can.

Ingredients

  • 2 very ripe bananas
  • 1 cup oats
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips (optional)
  • 3 dates, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped nuts (optional)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

Steps

  1. Peel and mash the very ripe bananas in a bowl until mostly smooth with just a few small lumps.
  2. Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, chopped dates, chopped nuts, cinnamon and honey until evenly combined.
  3. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes so the oats soak up moisture and the mixture firms up enough to hold its shape.
  4. Line the air fryer basket, or a tray that fits it, with parchment paper.
  5. Scoop the mixture into 10 small mounds on the parchment, spacing them apart.
  6. Press each mound down gently with the back of a spoon into a flat cookie shape, since they won't spread much on their own.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 160°C and air fry for 7 minutes.
  8. Lift one edge with a spatula to check the base — it should look golden, not pale.
  9. Give them 2 more minutes if needed, up to 9 minutes total, until set on top and golden underneath.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the parchment for a few minutes before lifting off, as they firm up as they cool.

Tip: No flour, no sugar. The riper the banana, the sweeter the cookie.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Serve them slightly warm with a glass of milk, or stacked with a smear of peanut butter between two.

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or the fridge for up to 5, and a quick 2-minute reheat in the air fryer at 150°C brings back the just-baked texture better than the microwave does.
