Air fry chicken tikka at 200°C (392°F) for 15 minutes.
The air fryer's high, dry heat mimics a tandoor closely enough to char the marinade into dark spots while the meat inside stays juicy, since the yogurt in the marinade both tenderizes the chicken and shields it from drying out too fast under the intense heat.
Whisk the yogurt with the ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric, lemon juice, salt and oil into a smooth marinade thick enough to coat the chicken rather than run off it.
Add the chicken cubes and coat thoroughly.
Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the fridge — the longer rest lets the yogurt's acidity tenderize the meat and the spices work past the surface.
Thread the chicken onto skewers alternating with the onion and capsicum chunks, or spread in a single layer in the basket.
Preheat the air fryer to 200°C.
Air fry for 7 minutes.
Turn the skewers or pieces over.
Air fry for a final 8 minutes, until charred outside.
Check the thickest piece with a thermometer — it should read 74°C at the center, rather than judging by color alone.
Serve with sliced onion, lemon and mint chutney while still hot, so the char stays fragrant rather than fading as it cools.
Tip: Thighs stay juicier than breast and are harder to overcook.

Serving & Storage
Serving: Best with sliced onion rings, a wedge of lemon and cool mint-yogurt chutney, or tucked into warm naan.
Storage: Keeps in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 5 minutes to warm through without drying it out further — microwaving tends to make the chicken rubbery.
