Air Fryer French Toast

Air fry french toast at 180°C (356°F) for 8 minutes.

French toast in the air fryer skips the pan entirely and still gets that golden, slightly crisp crust on both sides with almost no attention needed. A solid lazy-weekend breakfast that doesn't tie you to the stove flipping slices one at a time.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • Honey, to serve (optional)
  • 1 banana, sliced, to serve (optional)

Steps

  1. Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk with the milk, sugar and cinnamon until fully combined with no streaks of egg white.
  2. Dip each slice of bread briefly on both sides - a quick dunk rather than a long soak, so the bread stays custardy instead of turning soggy.
  3. Line the basket with greased parchment and lay the soaked slices on top.
  4. Air fry at 180°C for 4 minutes.
  5. Flip each slice and air fry another 4 minutes (8 minutes total) until both sides are golden brown and slightly puffed.
  6. Press the centre gently to check it isn't wet - it should spring back rather than feel eggy.
  7. Plate the toast while it's still warm.
  8. Top with sliced banana and a drizzle of honey, and serve immediately while the outside is at its crispest.

Tip: Slightly stale bread soaks up the egg without going soggy.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Serve hot with a drizzle of honey and sliced banana, or add a handful of berries for extra freshness.

Storage: Best eaten fresh; if you have leftovers, reheat in the air fryer at 160°C for a few minutes to recrisp the outside, since the microwave will leave it soggy.
