Air Fryer Pita Chips

Air fry pita chips at 180°C (356°F) for 6 minutes.

Leftover pita has very little moisture left in it, which is exactly what makes it crisp up so fast and evenly in an air fryer. The constant airflow reaches every triangle at once, giving an even golden crunch without the greasy heaviness of deep frying. It's a five-minute fix for bread that would otherwise go to waste.

Ingredients

  • 2 pita / Arabic bread
  • 1 tsp za’atar, sumac or paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil, salt

Steps

  1. Cut each pita into triangles, then carefully split the layers apart at the seam so each triangle becomes two thinner pieces.
  2. Put the pita pieces in a bowl and drizzle with the oil.
  3. Sprinkle over the salt and za'atar, sumac or paprika, then toss until every piece is lightly and evenly coated — go easy on the oil so they crisp rather than turn greasy.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C.
  5. Arrange the pita pieces in the basket in as close to a single layer as you can manage.
  6. Air fry for 3 minutes.
  7. Shake the basket well so the pieces redistribute, then air fry for the remaining 3 minutes (6 minutes total), until golden and crisp.
  8. Check a piece for crunch — it should snap cleanly rather than bend.
  9. Serve right away with hummus or labneh, while still warm and crackly.

Tip: A good way to use bread that’s a day or two old.
