Air Fryer Apple Oat Crumble

Air fry apple oat crumble at 180°C (356°F) for 14 minutes.

Apple crumble is the dessert you make when you want something warm but don't want to babysit an oven for an hour. The air fryer's tight space and constant air movement crisps the oat topping in under 15 minutes while the apples underneath soften into a jammy filling — a good one for two people on a weeknight, no big bake required.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples, chopped
  • ½ cup oats
  • 3 tbsp sugar or honey (or 4 chopped dates)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped nuts (optional)
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional)

Steps

  1. Peel (if you like) and chop the apples into even, bite-size pieces so they all cook down at the same rate.
  2. Toss the chopped apples in a bowl with the cinnamon and half the sugar or honey until every piece is evenly coated.
  3. Tip the coated apples into a small oven-safe dish, spreading them into an even layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, rub the cold butter into the oats, flour, chopped nuts and remaining sweetener with your fingertips until it turns into coarse, pea-sized crumbs rather than a paste.
  5. Scatter the crumb mixture evenly over the apples, leaving a few small gaps here and there so steam can escape instead of turning the topping soggy.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C.
  7. Place the dish in the basket and air fry for 10 minutes.
  8. Check the topping — if it's browning faster than the apples are softening, lay a small piece of foil loosely over the top.
  9. Continue air frying for the remaining 4 minutes, until the crumble is bubbling at the edges and golden on top.
  10. Let it sit for a minute or two before serving so the bubbling juices settle.

Tip: Serve warm with yogurt or ice cream.

Serving & Storage

Serving: Serve warm, spooned into bowls with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of yogurt melting into the hot fruit.

Storage: Keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer at 160°C for 3–4 min to bring the topping back to crisp — the microwave will just make it soft.
